Latest news on booking driving tests

Learners must now book and manage their own practical test. Since 12 May 2026, an instructor or driving school cannot book, change, swap or cancel a learner’s car test on their behalf.
Only 2 changes to a test booking are allowed. Since 31 March 2026, learners have a maximum of two changes before they have to cancel and make a new booking.
Tests can only be moved to nearby centres. Since 9 June, a learner can only move their test to one of the three nearest test centres to their existing booking.
Cancellation-finder services are no longer permitted. DVSA has specifically targeted unofficial services that automatically search for cancellations.
There are more examiners. DVSA says it had 1,604 full-time-equivalent driving examiners in April 2026, the highest level since 2018, and it has doubled examiner training capacity.
